West Bromwich Albion Soccer

West Bromwich Albion is based in the West Midlands and is currently playing in the top tier of the English league system, the famous Premier League. The club was founded in 1878 under the name West Bromwich Strollers by workers from Salter's Spring Works. West Brom were one of the clubs that came together to form the soccer League. Their current chairman is Jeremy Peace, a 52 year old company director and trained chartered accountant. West Brom is the most commonly used abbreviated name for the club, but other nicknames include the Baggies, the Throstles and simply Albion. The arena used for home games is The Hawthorns, having a capacity of 28000, and has been used by West Brom since 1900 when it was built.

West Brom were outside the English top division for a club record period between 1986 and 2002. However, since then the club was relegated again and was recently promoted back to the Premiership after finishing top of The Championship 2007/08. West Brom's biggest Premiership rivals are Aston Villa. Among the club's honours are the FA Cup (5 times), the League Cup (once) and the FA Charity Shield (twice; one of them shared with Wolves).

English brand Umbro manufactures the uniforms for the Baggies. They have a deal signed with the club to provide them with uniforms until 2011. West Brom's uniforms remain sponsorless, and it is likely that it will remain like this, at least for the time being. Their previous sponsor was T-Mobile UK. The home jersey is vertically striped in dark blue and white, and worn with white shorts and white socks. On the other hand, the away uniform consists of a yellow jersey with a dark blue collar and sleeves ends, dark blue shorts and yellow socks.
