Wales is one of the four national teams from the UK. They are currently ranked 65 in FIFA's world rankings. Wales played its first competitive match on 25 March 1876 against Scotland in Glasgow, making it the third oldest international football team in the world, Scotland went on to win that game 4-0. the first international football match in Wales took place at Wrexham on 5 March 1877 against Scotland Scotland took the spoils winning 2–0. Wales' first match against England came in 1879 which was a 2–1 defeat and in 1882 Wales faced Ireland for the first time, winning 7–1 in Wrexham.
Wales have only ever appeared in one World Cup finals competition, where they reached the quarter finals in 1958. The 1883-84 season saw the formation of the British Home Championship, a tournament which was played annually between England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales, Wales have been champions on 12 occasions, sharing 5 of those. Wales biggest ever win came against Ireland, 11-0 in 1888 and their biggest defeat was against Scotland in 1878, losing 9-0. Wales' most capped player is Neville Southall with 92 caps and their top goalscorer is Ian Rush with 28 goals.
Wales play most of their home matches at the Millennium Stadium, Cardiff, which was built in 1999 and can hold up to 74,500 however the staduim is predominantly used for the Rugby Union team. Wales play all of their home games in red jerseys and their current away colours are yellow.
