Valencia is a Spanish La Liga soccer club, considered by many to be one of the biggest and most successful clubs in the country. It is the third most popular club in Spain, behind Real Madrid and Barcelona. It was founded in 1919 in Torino Bar, where the idea of forming a soccer club was implemented. The club's earliest league success arrived in 1930-31, when the team won the Segunda Division, and were thus promoted to La Liga. Valencia won La Liga six times, the most recent being 2003-04, but slumped to an embarrassing 10th place in 2007-08. Other honours include the Copa del Rey for seven times, the Spanish Super Cup twice, the UEFA Cup twice (1979-80 known as Cup Winners' Cup), twice the European Super Cup, and the Intertoto Cup.
The club is chaired by Vicente Soriano, and the team managed by 37-year old Unai Emery. Currently they play their home games at 55000-seater Mestalla stadium, but they will be moving to Nou Mestalla (New Mestalla) later in 2009. This new stadium is in the north-west of the city and can hold 75000 fans, most of which will be season-ticket holders as the club has a long waiting list of applicants. The team is doing much better than last season, at least being in a qualifying position for Europe. Their biggest long-term rivals are Levante from Valencia.
Valencia's kits are manufactured by Kappa as from this year, with the Turin manufacturer replacing the popular Nike sportswear manufacturer. Valencia has two jersey sponsors being Valencia Experience and Unibet. Their home kit comprises of a white jersey with orange details, black shorts, and black & white socks. On the other hand, the away jersey uses the exact same layout with the orange details, but the base colour is black. Orange shorts and black socks complete the away kit of Los Che.
