Toronto FC are a Canadian club playing in the MLS. They are a reletively new team to the MLS, being founded in 2005. The name of the club was officially announced on May 11, 2006 by the team's owner, Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment Ltd, after fans voted online for their favorite chioce of name between "Toronto Northmen," "Inter Toronto FC," "Toronto Reds," and "Toronto FC." Over 40 percent of the online vote supported the simplified Toronto FC name. The tam have been nicknamed "TFC" and "the Reds" by fans and the media.
In the clubs two year history in the MLS, the team have finished bottom overall in the Eastern Conference in the 2007 season and again in 2008 season. Despite this, Toronto FC was a financial success in its inaugural season, selling out every home game and selling all of its first and second year season tickets, as well as all of the 16,000 season tickets for the 2009 MLS season. The team's second season saw them host the 2008 MLS All-Star Game and be named a finalist for the 2008 Sports Business Journal Pro Sports Franchise of the Year award.
Toronto play all of their home games at BMO Field stadium. The stadium holds 20,195 people and is the largest soccer-specific stadium in Canada. The clud badge integrates a traditional shield with contemporary imagery. All Toronto uniforms are made by Adidas. The home colours are mainly red to represent the Canadian connection and their away colours are grey.
