The team had more success in the European Championship, participating 8 times and winning two trophies. The first triumph was in 1964 when Spain were the hosts of the competition, and the other was in Euro 2008 held in Austria-Switzerland, when they defeated Germany 1-0 thanks to Fernando Torres. Spain will represent UEFA in the 2009 Confederations Cup. Vicente Del Bosque was appointed head coach on the 15th July 2008 to replace Euro 2008 winner Luis Aragones. Record holders for Spain are Andoni Zubizarreta with 126 caps, and Real Madrid captain Raul Gonzalez with 44 goals.
