San Jose Earthquakes

As one of the founding members of the MLS, San Jose were seen to be one of the weaker teams throughout the late 1990’s finishing well outside the play off positions in all but one season. However, in 2001, Earthquakes hired Frank Yallop, who is currently in his 2nd management spell with the club, to try to reverse the team’s fortunes. Along with star forward Landon Donavon, Earthquakes romped to a MLS Cup victory that year beating arch rivals LA Galaxy in the final after extra time.

The team were crowned MLS Cup champions again in 2003 before Yallop left. 2006-07 saw the Earthquakes take a two year hiatus after the failure to secure a new soccer specific stadium. Nevertheless, they returned for the 2008 with Frank Yallop back as head coach. Nevertheless, they failed to reach the Play Offs in 2008 and 2009. The Eartquakes’ most notable player is former Reading winger Bobby Convey who joined the club in February 2009.
