Real Salt Lake is an American club playing in the Major League Soccer. The club was founded in 2004 and started playing in this division as from the 2005 season. Their nicknames are mainly associated with the club name: RSL, Real, Lakers, the Red & Blue Army and the Royals. Real Salt Lake is owned by SCP Worldwide and plays their home games in the Rio Tinto Stadium, having a capacity of 20 thousand. Prior to 2008, they used to play their home games at 45017-capacity American football arena Rice-Eccles Stadium. Interestingly, Real Salt Lake have signed a 10-year ooperation deal with European giants Real Madrid in September 2006.
RSL are coached by the American Jason Kreis, a 36-year old coach who used to play as a forward, and was also capped for his country. In their very short history, Real have yet to win a major award. In the 2008 MLS season, Real ranked 3rd in the Western Conference with 40 points from 30 games. In the overall standings they ranked 7th. Their biggest rivals are Colombus Crew, which play in the Eastern Conference, and topped the Overall table in 2008.
The Lakers' uniforms are manufactured by German sportswear manufacturers Adidas, and they are sponsored by Xango, a marketing company of a dietary supplement juice. The home jersey is mostly claret red. The sleeves are cobalt blue with gold stripes. The home shorts and socks are cobalt blue. The away uniform consists of a white jersey with cobalt blue stripes and red details, white shorts and white socks.
