Real Salt Lake

Following their formation in 2004, Real Salt Lake was not originally successful on the pitch. In their first three seasons they missed out on the play offs by quite a distance. However, in 2008, some last minute heroics booked the teams place in the play offs where they narrowly lost in the semi finals. The club built on this experience in 2009 by winning the MLS Cup despite only qualifying for the trophy in 5th place from the Western Conference.

Salt Lake’s highest scorer in the 2009 campaign was Robbie Findley. Findley had a trial at Brondby in January 2009 and scored two goals in the match they used to assess him. However, he failed to gain a contract at the club and returned to Salt Lake. He ended up as the joint third highest goalscorer in the MLS with 12 goals . The club plays their home games at the 20,008 capacity soccer specific Rio Tinto stadium which opened in October 2008.
