Italy Soccer
The Italian national soccer team is controlled by the Italian Football Federation, known as FIGC in Italy. The Federation forms part of the UEFA confederation, Italy are considered to be the second-most successful national soccer team in the world having won four World Cups, one short of Brazil. Italy's current FIFA Ranking is 4th place while their highest ever place in the rankings was first place in November 1993, February 2007, April 2007 to June 2007. Their lowest ranking was in April 1998 when they ranked 16th place. Luigi Riva is the nation's top scorer having scored 35 goals while Paolo Maldini leads the most capped player list having played 126 games with the Italian national soccer team.
The team is nicknamed the Azzurri and play their home games wearing a blue jersey and white shorts. Their away uniform is mainly white jerseys and blue shorts.
Italy won the World Cup four times in 1934, 1938, 1982 and 2006. On the other hand they faired slightly poorer in the European Championship as they only managed to lift the trophy once in 1968. In 2000 they managed to reach the final of the competition only for France to beat them with the Golden Goal rule.
