Everton Soccer

Everton FC was founded in 1878 as St Domingo FC, but was renamed a year later as the club was no longer exclusive to the members of the Parish Church, but was opened up to the wider surrounding area. It is based in Liverpool and cannot see eye to eye with rivals Liverpool FC from the same city. In fact, Liverpool was formed 14 years after Everton after a dispute over the rent of Anfield. The club plays its home games in Goodison Park, a stadium with a capacity of 40569. Everton plays in the Premier League, and has contested the biggest number of seasons. Everton have a large fanbase and fills around 90% of its stadium when playing at home.

The club is chaired by Bill Kenwright and managed by David Moyes. The Scottish manager has built a side which can challenge and bring down the established four-horse race to the Premiership. His side finished 5th in 2007/08 and is trying to break into the top four in the present season. Ex-Manchester United defender Phil Neville, brother of the Man Utd captain, is the captain of the Merseyside club. Ever since the Premier League was set up, Everton have never won it, but they won the old First Division 9 times, addind to their list of honours which includes 5 FA Cup (the most recent in 1995), 9 Charity Shields and the 1985 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup (UEFA Cup).

Everton are also known as the Toffees or the Blues. Their home kit consists of a blue jersey, white shorts and white socks. These colours are inverted for the away kit: white jersey, blue shorts and blue socks. Their jersey sponsor is beer brand Chang. Everton's kits are manufactured by Umbro, but the deal lasts until the end of the 2008/09 season. Le Coq Sportif are understood to be waiting in the background to become the next manufacturers. The club kits were already manufactured by Le Coq Sportif between 1983 and 1986, and this would be the third time that the club left Umbro to agree a deal with another manufacturer.
