The Danish national soccer team is coordinated by the Danish Football Association, the Dansk Boldspil-Union, and forms part of the European confederation UEFA. Denmark is presently ranked 34th as at February 2009, closer to its lowest ever ranking of 37th, than to its highest ranking of 3rd. Denmark played its first competitive match against the B team of France, in London, on the 19th October 1908, winning the encounter by a score of 9-0. This might seem a big win, but actually, the biggest ever Danish win came 3 days later against the senior side of France, when Denmark won 17-1 in the same stadium. The national team's biggest official defeat was 8-0 away against Germany on the 16th May 1937.
Denmark participated 3 times in the World Cup. The first time was in 1986, followed by 1998 and 2002. The best result was acquired in France 1998 when the team reached the quarter-finals but lost 3-2 to eventual finalists Brazil. The Danish team participated 7 times in a European Championship. It won the 1992 event held in Sweden and contested by 8 national teams. Denmark won Germany 2-0 in the Final of the competition. Another triumph for Denmark was in the 1995 Confederations Cup held in Saudi Arabia, when the team beat defending champions Argentina by 2 goals to nil. Man Utd goalkeeper legend Peter Schmeichel holds the record for the most caps, with 129 appearances. The all-time top goalscorer is Poul Nielsen with 52 goals. Denmark's home games are played at Parken Stadium, currently being renovated to have a capacity of 38000. The current capacity during the renovation is 34098.
Sportswear giants Adidas are the manufacturers of the Danish soccer jerseys. In designing the uniforms, the colours of the Danish flag and federation flag were kept in mind. The home uniform uses red as the major colour for the jersey, combined with white for the shorts and red again for the socks. The away uniform consists of a white jersey with thin vertical red stripes, red shorts and white socks.
