DC United is a Major League Soccer club founded in 1995. It is based in Washington D.C. and owned by DC United Holdings. The club was a founding member of the Major League Soccer, which commenced in 1996. In the 2008 season, they ranked 6th in the Eastern Conference, made up of 7 teams, with 37 points from 30 games. This is the first time ever since the MLS started that the club ranked in a position below 5th.
In fact, DC United is considered to be one of the most successful clubs in the States. They won the Eastern Conference in 1997, 1998, 1999, 2006, and 2007. Other honours acquired during the year include 4 times the MLS Cup, 4 times the MLS Supporters' Shield, twice the US Open, and the 1998 CONCACAF Champions' Cup. The club plays its home games 56690-seater Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium. The team is managed by American coach Tom Soehn.
Kits for DC United are manufactured by Adidas, and sponsored by German car manufacturer Volkswagen. The home kit of the American club consists of a black jersey, black shorts and black socks, while the away kit comprises of a white jersey, white shorts and white socks.
