Czech Republic's national football team is administered by the Football Association of the Czech Republic (Ceskomoravsky fotbalovy svas) and forms part of the European federation UEFA. It is ranked 9th in the FIFA rankings as at February 2009, and its past rankings range from 2nd to 67th. The first competitive match as an independent Czech Republic was against Turkey in Istanbul, which the team won 4-1. The biggest Czech win was by a seven-goal margin against Andorra and San Marino, while the biggest defeat was 3-0 to Switzerland.
The Czechs appeared for the first time in a World Cup in 2006. When the team was part of Czechoslovakia, it finished as runner-up in World Cup 1934 and World Cup 1962. In Germany 2006, Czech Republic failed to get past the group stage as it won one and lost two of the group stage matches. In the European Championship, the team participated four times, and the best result was finishing runners-up in England 1996. Previously part of Czechoslovakia, the team won Euro 1976 which was hosted by Yugoslavia. The Czech Republic team also participated in the 1997 Confederations Cup and finished in the third place. The current head coach is Petr Rada who is Czech and took over in 2008. Karel Poborsky holds the record of the most caps for Czech Republic with 118 appearances, while Jan Koller is the all-time top goalscorer with 55 goals. The main stadium used for home games is the AXA Arena with a capacity of 20854.
Czech Republic's uniforms are manufactured by Puma. The national team's home jersey is red with a blue trim. The home uniform includes also red shorts and red socks. On the other hand, the away uniform comprises of a white jersey with red side details, white shorts and white socks. Czech Republic will be looking for their second appearances in the World Cup by qualifying for the South Africa 2010 event.
