Croatia Soccer

The Croatian national football team is controlled by the Croatian Football Federation (Hrvatski Nogometni Savez) and forms part of UEFA. Croatia is ranked 7th in the FIFA rankings as at February 2009. The range of rankings throughout its history is between the 3rd place and the 125th place. The Croatian team's first competitive match was played on the 2nd April 1940 at home against Switzerland, and the Croatians won the match with a big 4-0 scoreline. The biggest Croatian wins were 7-0 against Australia and Andorra, while the biggest loss was by a 3-goal margin against Slovakia, Portugal, France, Netherlands and England.

Croatia's first experience in the World Cup was in 1998, and they started off very well as they earned the 3rd place in the competition. However, in Korea-Japan 2002 and in Germany 2006, they failed to get past the group stage, registering their only win in six games (in the group stage of both competitions: 3 matches per World Cup group) in the 2002 event. The national team participated three times in the European Championship, their first one being the 1996 event held in England. They missed out on Euro 2000 (Belgium-Holland), and reached the quarter-finals in 1996 and 2008. Their incumbent coach is Slaven Bilic, to whom they owe most of their success. The record holder for the highest number of caps is Dario Simic with 100 appearances. The home stadium of the Croatian team is the Maksimir Stadium, which has a capacity of 37168.

The Croatian uniforms are manufactured by American sportswear giants Nike. The design of the uniforms is very similar to the team's emblem, being checkered in red and white. The home jersey is all checkered like this, and complemented by white shorts and blue socks. On the other hand, the away jersey is mainly blue, but the sides are checkered in red and white. Blue shorts and blue socks complete the Croatian away uniform.
