The Canadian national soccer team are currently 86th in FIFA's world rankings. Soccer was being played in Canada before rules were formalized in Britain. In 1885, Canada sent a representative team to New Jersey to take on a side put forth by the American Soccer Association, in an unofficial friendly, Canada defeated their hosts 1-0 in East Newark, New Jersey. The American team won 3-2 in a return match one year later. Canada's first official game was against Australia in 1924, Canada lost 3-2.
Canada's biggest ever unofficial win was 7-0, against USA in 1904 and their biggest official win was 5-0 against Malaysia in 1986. Their biggest ever defeat was against Mezico in 1993, losing 8-0. Canada have only appeared in one world cup finals competition and that was in 1986, where Canada didnt make it past the first round. They have appeared in 11 CONCACAF Championship & Gold Cup and have won it twice, in 1985 and in 2000. Canada's most capped player is Randy Samuel with 82 caps and their top goalscorer is Dale Mitchell with 19 goals.
Canada play all their home games at the BMO Field stadium in Toronto, the first soccer specific stadium in Canada and also home to MLS side Toronto FC. The stadium can hold up to 21,978 spectators. Canada's home colours are mostly red and their current away colours are white. Currently their soccer jerseys are manufactured by adidas.
