Blackburn Rovers Soccer

Blackburn Rovers is a famous Premier League club based in the Lancashire town with the same name. They are nicknamed the Rovers, the Riversiders, and the Blue & Whites. The club was founded in 1875, and is proudly one of just 3 teams which were founding members of the Football League in 1888, and later the Premier League in 1992. The club is owned by The Walker Family who took over towards the end of the 1990/91 season and invested heavily in players. The owners are prepared to sell the club and are looking for suitors. The present chairman is John Williams. Ewood Park is the stadium of Blackburn Rovers, built and opened in 1882, and having a capacity of 31367.

Blackburn have won the FA Cup 6 times, but 5 of them were in the 1800s and the last time they won it was in 1928. They won the League Cup 2002, the 1912 Charity Shield, and the League Division 1 (before the Premier League was set up) in 1911/12 and 1913/14.

Ever since the Premier League was set up in 1992, only 4 English teams have won it: Manchester United (10 times), Arsenal (3 times), Chelsea (2 times) and Blackburn (once). Blackburn ranked runners-up in the 1993/94 season behind Man Utd, but won the 1994/95 season with Man Utd as runners-up having a single point less than Blackburn. In the 2007/08 season, Blackburn ranked 7th with 58 points, 29 less than the Red Devils which were crowned Champions for the second time in a row. In the 2008/09 season, as a result of wrong choices of management, the team finds itself battling against the feared relegation zone.

Blackburn Rovers' jersey manufacturers are English sportswear company Umbro. The jersey sponsors are Crown Paints, which signed a deal with the club on the 12th March 2008 to last until 2011. The home jersey is half white and half blue. The sleeve on each side is the opposite colour of the body half. The home shorts and socks are white. The away uniform is all dark blue with central details in blue and white at in the form of a vertical stripe in the middle. Last season's red & black halved away jersey was relegated to third jersey for 2008/09.
