The Australian national football team is controlled by the Football Federation Australia and forms part of the Asian Football Confederation. Its current head coach is Pim Verbeek and they are currently (as at Feb 2009) are ranked 27th place in the FIFA World Rankings. Their highest ever FIFA Ranking is infact their current position, 27. Their Lowest on the other hand was in June 2000 when they ranked in 92nd place.
Australia's home uniform colours are mainly yellow with slight touches of green around the sleeves. The jersey is complemented with green shorts. The away uniform is an all-blue uniform with slight yellow touches around the sleeves.
Australia started to participate in the FIFA World Cup since 1966 but managed to qualify first in 1974. The Socceroos had to wait until 2006 to make their second ever appearance in the World Cup when they managed to arrive in Round 2 when they were knocked out by Italy. Australia also managed to win the Oceania Nations Cup four times.
