Aston Villa is a Premier League club from Birmigham. It was founded in 1874, 135 years ago, and was a founding member of The soccer League, when it started in 1888, and more recently the Premier League in 1992. Not only were they founding members, but they also managed 2nd place in the first Premier League season, just behind title winners Manchester United. Aston Villa are one of just 4 English clubs to have won the European Cup, nowadays known as the UEFA Champions League. They did so with a 1-0 victory over Bayern Munich in the 1981/82 season, and subsequent to this, won the Super Cup in 1982/83.
Randy Lerner from the United States owns the club as he bought all the club's shares in 2006. 2006 was the beginning of change for the Villans. Martin O'Neill was brought in as manager to replace David O'Leary, and he reshaped the team to start pushing for success, after a long period of form inconsistency in the League. The club crest was changed after consultation with the fans, and Acorns Children's Hospice were the new jersey sponsors, being the first sponsorship deal of its kind in the Premier League. Aston Villa play in Villa Park, a stadium with 42640 seats. They have a fierce rivalry with Birmingham City, also from Birmingham.
The new club crest features a golden lion with a white star (representing the European Cup success) on a sky blue background. The words AVFC appear on top of the lion, while motto ‘Prepared' appears below. The crest's edge is claret. Aston Villa's jerseys are manufactured by Nike. The home jersey is claret with sky blue sleeves and collar. It is accompanied by plain white shorts and sky blue socks. The away jersey, on the other hand, is sky blue with black sleeves and collar. Black shorts and black socks complete the Aston Villa away kit.
