2009 DC United Home Jersey

DC United is a male American soccer team who were founded in 1995. The club have made a steady, if unspectacular, start to the 2009 MLS season drawing their opening two games against LA Galaxy and Chicago Fire respectively.

The DC United home uniform for the 2009 MLS season is the same as the one used throughout the 2008 season. The one major difference is that the classy white Volkswagen sponsor is on the centre of the jersey from the start of the season this time around. In fact, the white sponsor blends very well with the predominately black jersey that was manufactured by Adidas. Adidas also use the white typeface for their central logo and for the three traditional stripes that run down both shoulders. The edge of the sleeves also contains a slight red trim which actually has a fairly big effect on the overall look of the uniform.

All in all, the Volkswagen sponsor gives this jersey a lot more depth than it previously had. Although the uniform now has a German feel to it, the final outcome certainly has a slicker effect.

DC United

DC United is the most successful MLS club in history. Their dominance came mainly in the 1990’s when they were victorious in the MLS cup in 1996, 1997 and 1999 whilst they finished runners up in 1998. Their only other MLS cup success came in 2004 after a period of decline in the early years of the new millennium. In the 2008 MLS campaign, DC United failed to qualify for the MLS play offs for the first time in five years.

The club’s star player is 35-year-old Bolivian striker Jaime Moreno who in recent years has become the all time top goalscorer in the MLS. DC United was also renowned for the signing of Freddy Adu at the age of 14 which made him the youngest American to receive a pro contract in any sport.
